I met someone the other day that went to a prominent San Diego religious college set up on
a hill who had to take some religious classes for his degree. While there his teachers didn’t teach the literal interpretation of the Bible, rather they explained away God’s Word to where this man is totally lost. In our conversation, I mentioned that in our mission we don’t push religion but teach the Word of God to the tribal people. At that point he said that “the Bible cannot be trusted to teach us anything about God”. And he proceeded to explain away the Bible as a bunch of fabrications by the early church. He further claimed that Jesus sinned, and that Jesus already came a second time in the resurrection so he is certainly not coming again. He says that if Jesus was going to come back to judge us, then he was going to “be all up in his face”, because Jesus is all about love. All this he learned from a “religious” institution. Jesus’ message is not tolerant of all other religions, he said that “I AM the Way, the Truth, and the Life…” “There is only one name given among men by which they can be saved… Jesus”
Godlessness in the Last Days
3 But mark this: There will be terrible times in the last days. 2 People will be lovers of themselves, lovers of money, boastful, proud, abusive, disobedient to their parents, ungrateful, unholy, 3 without love, unforgiving, slanderous, without self-control, brutal, not lovers of the good, 4 treacherous, rash, conceited, lovers of pleasure rather than lovers of God— 5 having a form of godliness but denying its power. Have nothing to do with them. 6 They are the kind who worm their way into homes and gain control over weak-willed women, who are loaded down with sins and are swayed by all kinds of evil desires, 7 always learning but never able to acknowledge the truth. 8 Just as Jannes and Jambres opposed Moses, so also these men oppose the truth—men of depraved minds, who, as far as the faith is concerned, are rejected. 9 But they will not get very far because, as in the case of those men, their folly will be clear to everyone.
Who are you Lord?
I AM the God of the Bible. When you don’t take my word at face value, then everything in it is open to reinterpretation according to your human wisdom and personal biases. Whatever men don’t like about my message, they explain away as poetry. Once the message of the Bible is mute, then you can do whatever you want without my pestering conscience pricking. When you live for your own pleasure and the pursuit of personal happiness and wealth, then my Word has no place in your life because of its convicting message of repentance. The solution; have highly educated and or religious people explain it away as fables. However, you cannot have it both ways. Live life for me and use your money on those things which I love, or live for yourself and spend your money on your own pleasures. Money is not your god, you are. Then your money is used to serve your many pleasures; and your faith – rejected.
Take me at my Word. Believe me when I say that my word will outlast this present universe. All these fad doctrines are there to challenge your will as to whose word you will believe and base your life on; mine or the countless counterfeits of Satan. “Their folly will be clear to everyone.”
“…Having a form of godliness, but denying its power.” Form kills, Religion kills. It also blinds us to think we are OK and that we have all the answers we need. These weak willed women spoken of in this passage, as one commentary says, are not even able to recognize the truth when it was given to them because of their persistence to sin. Then once truth is no longer the issue, all the fad doctrines are free to run rampant, getting our eyes off of what matters for eternity namely, knowing our sin condition and God’s holy perfection and what he did to change us by the work of Christ on the cross. One day this man that I spoke to will bow the knee to Jesus whether he likes it or not. God’s Word says so. And he won’t be “in his face” he will be on it. Please don’t let this be you. Sorry that this is so harsh, I morn for this man and don’t want it to be you.
More to come,
