Who are you Lord? I AM the Sovereign Lord 2 Thess 3:1-5

We may have protection against the evil one himself, but men must be allowed to exercise

We are protected from the evil one

their wills to choose which side of the battle they are on.  We will face people who hate the truth and who have been blinded by Satan and the world system against the Bible.  But regardless, this passage says that we are to continue to do his work in the power of His love and with the perseverance that Christ himself had while facing the trial of the cross.

Request for Prayer

3  Finally, brothers, pray for us that the message of the Lord may spread rapidly and be honored, just as it was with you. 2 And pray that we may be delivered from wicked and evil men, for not everyone has faith. 3 But the Lord is faithful, and he will strengthen and protect you from the evil one. 4 We have confidence in the Lord that you are doing and will continue to do the things we command. 5 May the Lord direct your hearts into God’s love and Christ’s perseverance.

Who are you Lord?

I AM the sovereign Lord who has power over the evil oneSatan must come to me for permission to afflict you.  Satan may try to prevent people from hearing the Gospel, he may even send his servants to attack you, but remember my servant Job to whom Satan could do nothing which I did not allow for my reasons whether Job understood them or not.

Also think back to when Satan tried to kill Moses as a baby?  I hid him right under Satan’s nose in the palace of the Pharaoh.  To add insult to injury, I had Pharaoh pay his mother to nurse him and give him the education necessary to lead my people.

No one can thwart my plans for the salvation of men; that is what sovereignty entails.  Yes evil men will try to hinder my work and even kill you – my ambassadors.  But, in light of these examples and many more in My Word; you can be confident that I AM the faithful one who has the situation under control, so persevere and don’t be afraid to live a life of Christ’s love in order to share my gospel with others.

Jesus said “on this rock I will build my church and the gates of Hell shall not prevail.”  Christ is the rock and nothing will stop him from bringing together his church from every part of the world.  He also said in Jn 12:24I tell you the truth, unless a kernel of wheat falls to the ground and dies, it remains only a single seed. But if it dies, it produces many seeds.” You are the seed thus you must die to your comfortable life if you want to see fruit from it.  We will face hardship and persecution for being His children; you can count on it.  Don’t be surprised!  The scriptures tell us that we are to face hardships.  “All who would be godly in Christ Jesus will suffer persecution.”  Salvation is free, but your faith costs you everything.

We can take comfort that Christ is with us through every trial.  We can joyfully look forward to heaven where we will realize that everything we go through for Jesus’ sake will be worth it.  We are honored that God has counted us worthy to be part of his sufferings in order to bring lost souls to him.  We can rejoice that every hardship we face has God’s design on it for our conformance into Christ’s likeness.  And we can be thankful that Christ is glorifying himself through us as we respond to our difficult times with His attitude.

More to come,

One Response to Who are you Lord? I AM the Sovereign Lord 2 Thess 3:1-5

  1. strostrud says:

I don’t want anyone to be confused as they read this post that I am saying that Satan can never disrupt, hurt or oppress us; for there are many people under his control who will do bad things to us, as well as the fact that we live in a fallen world where Satan lives. But take comfort in the fact that in God’s sovereignty, God wraps his force field around us which he calls love. Satan would love nothing more than to kill us and so sends his fiery darts our way. However as they pass through God’s love, they end up working in us what the Lord intends for our lives to become more like Jesus (Rom 8:28,29). Don’t forget also that our position in Christ has been elevated above Satan’s, we are not under Satan’s control any more. Praise Jesus.
