In this day of relativism and subjectivity where absolutes and authority are challenged, it is imperative to hold tightly to God’s absolute standard for life and godliness. It may cost you dearly, but if we hold to the truths of God’s word, we can have confidence that God is faithful to us in the end when it really counts.
Eph4:1-16 As a prisoner for the Lord, then, I urge you to live a life worthy of the calling you have received. 2 Be completely humble and gentle; be patient, bearing with one another in love. 3 Make every effort to keep the unity of the Spirit through the bond of peace. 4 There is one body and one Spirit— just as you were called to one hope when you were called— 5 one Lord, one faith, one baptism; 6 one God and Father of all, who is over all and through all and in all. 7 But to each one of us grace has been given as Christ apportioned it. 8 This is why it says: “When he ascended on high, he led captives in his train and gave gifts to men.” 9 (What does “he ascended” mean except that he also descended to the lower, earthly regions? 10 He who descended is the very one who ascended higher than all the heavens, in order to fill the whole universe.) 11 It was he who gave some to be apostles, some to be prophets, some to be evangelists, and some to be pastors and teachers, 12 to prepare God’s people for works of service, so that the body of Christ may be built up 13 until we all reach unity in the faith and in the knowledge of the Son of God and become mature, attaining to the whole measure of the fullness of Christ. 14 Then we will no longer be infants, tossed back and forth by the waves, and blown here and there by every wind of teaching and by the cunning and craftiness of men in their deceitful scheming. 15 Instead, speaking the truth in love, we will in all things grow up into him who is the Head, that is, Christ. 16 From him the whole body, joined and held together by every supporting ligament, grows and builds itself up in love, as each part does its work.
Who are you Lord?
I AM the God of truth because I AM truth. I AM the God who created the church and who is perfecting it using each one of you together. I have given each one of you a small piece of the proverbial puzzle so that only together you will attain the whole measure of the fullness of Christ. Just as I am humble and gentle, patient and loving so too I want you to be with each other. Do not become conceited in your own gifting because you are only one small piece of the body.
I have given prophets to point out truth to you, evangelists to challenge you with my truth, pastors to care for you truthfully and teachers to instruct you in my truth so that you would know me in the truth of my Word. I have chosen to use words like mature, knowledge, unity, fullness which indicate that you need my truth to guide you into these absolutes. Only together as you share the truth with each other will you have all the proper teaching so as not to be deceived by Satan as he did Eve and who is out to divide and destroy you. You all have the same hope in Christ, the same baptism in the Holy Spirit, the same future, and the same Lord. What are different about each of you are your cultures, styles, techniques and languages. All of these differences are beautiful to me and express my nature of diversity and my love of variety. However, you tend to get hung up over their differences. These are inconsequential to what really matters – Faith expressing itself in love toward each other in accordance with the truth.
God is truth and His word gives it to us to know. God’s ultimate truth is what we as his body are to strengthen each other in and with. Of course God’s enemy is going to do all he can to blur the issues and counterfeit God’s truth with error. Any time he can get us to doubt God’s Word, he wins. Eve added her two cents to what God said to them in the garden and that gave the devil the opportunity he wanted to destroy them. Once we lean on our own understanding over what God says, we have no authority. Every person’s opinion is the same. Only what God’s word says really matters in an issue. Then trust him in it and live it out in love.
More to come,
